ABOUT GED SCIENCE TEST

Test Topics

  • Reading for Meaning in Science
  • Designing and Interpreting Science Experiments
  • Using Numbers and Graphics in Science

Test Format – 1 Part with about 46 to 53 questions

  • The test is made up of multiple choices, drag and drop, fill in the blank, hot spot and drop down questions.
  • On-screen calculator and calculator reference sheet will be provided on the computer.

Test Duration – 90 minutes (1.5 Hours)

  • 90 minutes to complete the Science Test
  • Includes 2 minutes of instructions and final review
  • No breaks

Note: The Science Test is not a memorization test. You don’t need to do things like memorize the periodic table or the number of bones in the human body. It has Science concepts including using logic and reasoning to interpret information and drawing conclusions in a science context.

1. Reading for Meaning in Science

  • Finding evidence that supports a finding
  • Making sense of information that differs between various science sources
  • Science readings discusses theories, draw conclusions from evidences that are presented. You should be able to read science passages and identify the evidence that supports the theory, principle, or conclusion that has been drawn.
  • Understanding and explain information from the passages
  • Understanding symbols, terms, and phrases in science
  • Using scientific words to express science information
  • Understanding the difference between a theory, a hypothesis, and a scientific law to determine when you can draw conclusions and when you will need more information.

2. Designing and Interpreting Science Experiments

  • Designing a science investigation
  • Identifying and explaining independent and dependent variables
  • Identifying and improving hypotheses for science investigations
  • Identifying possible errors in a science investigation and change the design to correct them
  • Identifying the strengths and weaknesses of different types of science investigations
  • Deciding whether conclusions are supported by data/Evidence
  • Making conclusions based on data/Evidence
  • Making predictions based on data/Evidence
  • Understanding and applying Science theories and processes.

3. Using Numbers and Graphics in Science

  • Applying science formulas (the science formulas will be provided)
  • Using statistics to describe science data
  • Determining the probability or likelihood of something happening
  • Using a sample to answer science questions
  • Using counting to solve science problems
  • Using graphics to display science information
  • Using numbers or symbols to display science information
  • Explaining different ways in which scientific information is presented
