TIPS ON HOW TO PASS GED MATH TEST
- The GED Math test evaluates your ability to solve mathematical problems. You will need to search for the entry point for solving a problem, plan for the solution, recognize the missing information and finally select the appropriate mathematical formula and steps to solve the problem.
- You also need to be able to interpret world problems by representing them visually and algebraically, building a line of reasoning based on previous steps
- Practice solving and manipulating arithmetic expressions, solving, and simplifying algebraic expressions and analyzing data.
- The skills mentioned above are used to answer questions from the different parts of the GED Math Test, before you take your test do ensure you have practiced well enough and have a good understanding of these frequently repeated topics below;
- Quantitative Reasoning (45%), which includes problems with positive and negative whole numbers, decimals, fractions, order of operations, ratios, proportions, percent, data and statistics, probability, and geometry.
- Algebraic Reasoning (55%), which includes expressions, polynomials, equations, inequalities, linear equations, quadratic equations, word problems, slopes, and functions
- When dealing with questions involving Data analysis, do make sure you scan through the chart, data and tables presented to you before attempting the question. Pay close attention to the information on the data presented like the title, label and column and row titles or headings. This will help you to better analyze and understand what you are expected to do.
- To master your algebra well, make sure you have a good grasp of how to work around with positive and negative integers, as this will help you avoid common errors in algebra.
- To effectively manage your time well, do not waste time on questions you find difficult, you can always select your guess answer in case you do not have time to come back to it, flag them for review and revisit them later if you still have time to (there is no guessing penalty on the GED test).
- Even if you can’t do the very first few problems, there are 40 more others waiting for you, and you will find that many of them are easy. When you encounter a question that is written so confusingly with much text that it is impossible for you to understand, just guess, flag for review, and move on to do every problem that comes easily to you.
- Practice using the GED Calculator, that is the TI-30XS and the GED formula sheet when studying, as you will find it quite helpful during your test.
